About Samhain
Samhain is an ancient and major holiday – a holiday of transition to the dark part of the year. After Christianization Samhain turned into All Saints’ Day and Encaenia, whereas nowadays it is celebrated in the greater part of the Western world as Halloween.
Those who call Samhain «Celtic» New Year or Celtic Halloween are almost right, but in reality it is far more exciting!
In our city Samhain is traditionally marked by events dedicated to Celtic culture. Dancers and musician show their art to the audience and each other. It is here, like on St. Patrick’s Day, where one can see what feeds the interest of people who love Celtic music and dancing and become familiar with the culture of Ireland, Scotland, Brittany, Wales and Galicia.
If you are tired of celebrating “American” Halloween, Samhain will make up a perfect choice!
